MOSCOW The Kremlin said on Wednesday President Vladimir Putin had discussed his recent meeting with U.S. President George W. Bush by phone with Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, who has emerged as an ally of Washington's controversial plan for a nuclear missile shield. An official statement said the two leaders discussed Putin's summit with Bush in Slovenia on Saturday when they spoke on Tuesday. They also discussed the prospects for boosting Russia-Spain cooperation, notably when Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov visits Madrid in the autumn, it said. The statement gave no details of Putin's comments to Aznar on his meeting with Bush, which focussed on U.S. plans for new missile defense shield.
